Lizzie B Burton

March 24, 1923 — July 14, 2024

Martin, GA

Lizzie Bea Burton started her life journey March 24, 1923, in Martin, Georgia. She was born to the late Ada (Earle) and James Fruster. She was the fifth of twelve siblings, all of whom have preceded her in death.

She gave her life to the Lord as a young girl, joining Cleveland CME Church, where she was a faithful member until marriage. She then changed her membership to her husband’s church, Hurricane Grove Baptist Church.

On March 26,1946, she was united in Holy Matrimony to Troy Robert Burton, they were married for 56 years. To this union twelve children were born: five boys, five girls, and a set of twins, the male twin preceding her in death. She was preceded in death by two sons: Kenneth Eugene Burton (Lula Mae Hill), and Terry Allen Burton.

Lizzie Bea was a Homemaker, staying at home to raise her children. During her leisure time she worked in her beautiful flower beds planting many herbs such as camel root, yellow root, and catnip tea, which she used often. During the summer she would work in several of their fields planting and harvesting peanuts, sugar cane, vegetables, and fruits, which she canned and stored for the winter. An amazing cook, family and friends loved her peach cobbler, fried apple pies, and strawberry cobbler. Because the family had an abundance of food, they always shared it with neighbors and friends. Their home was the place where most kids loved to visit, eat, play, and received much love. She was such a good person. Not only did she take care of her husband and family, but she was also a caregiver to many women giving birth, cared for the sick, and healed some babies that had Thrust. Her favorite hobbies were quilting and fishing. Most of all, she loved her family, especially the grandchildren, and they loved her.

Lizzie Bea was well known in the community and leaves behind so many people who loved her. She will truly be missed by her friends of many years. She had those close special friends who called her faithfully: Mrs. Frankie Mae Burch, Mrs. Annie Lois Gober, Mrs. Georgia Oglesby, Mrs. Linda Drinker, Mrs. Betty Joe Fleming, Mrs. Merlean Brown, Mrs. Juanita Hayes, Mrs. Sallie Mae Hayes, Mrs. Beverly Higginbottom, and special friend and niece Mrs. Agnes Oglesby. Mrs. Geraldine Hayes was a wonderful neighbor and friend who made sure she had a wonderful meal every Wednesday. She really appreciated all the neighbors on the Grove, and especially how Jeff Hunter looked out for her regularly.

Many friends over the years never forgot her, Parris Ann Collinback, Jackie LeCroy and family, and the Graham Family. If your name was not mentioned it was not intentional, just know that whatever you did or said she loved you for it, and really appreciated how you made her feel.

Mama was a firm believer in the power of prayer, always telling her kids to pray on your knees before bed while you can. She also taught her children important life lessons: treat everybody with respect, if you have nothing good to say about someone then don’t say it, stay humble, and to always keep GOD first. She encouraged her family to eat organic food as much as possible, and to always help others.

Mama made her eternal transition to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 14, 2024, with her children, grandkids, nieces, nephews, other family members and friends by her bedside.

Lizzie Bea leaves to cherish her memory, nine children: T.W. Burton (Barbara) Anderson SC, Jo Evelyn Blackwell, Atlanta GA, Wonda Alexander, Toccoa GA, Gary Burton, Toccoa GA, Gloria Burton, Martin GA, Harriett Starks, Toccoa GA, Tammy Harris, (Jimmy), Woodbridge VA, Nadine Burton, Atlanta GA, and Robert Burton, Martin GA. Lizzie Bea’s mother passed away during childbirth at a young age. She was left to raise three of her siblings, J. T. Fruster, Cleo Fruster and Leonard Fruster.

Lizzie Bea has thirty-three (33) Grandkids: Carl Holland, Benjamin Holland, Little Gary Burton, Tawanna Burton, Novella Burton, Cassandra Gant, Jacquelyn Wright, Stephon Burton, Rodney Blackwell, Darius Blackwell, Corey Blackwell, Courtney Blackwell, Tashua Alexander, Cinque Alexander, Cheryl Burton, Donald Burton, Pascal Burton, Diane Crespo, Melissa Burton, Johnnie Reese, Nena Scott, Keisha Verdell, Prescott Shoemaker, Salayne Cureton, Lisa Butler, Larriett Butler, Curtis Butler, Candance Long, Trovelt Long, Kennetha Long, Kim Long, Sabria Burton-Marshall (Rico), A.K.
