Vergie Pinkston Gilliard

 Vergie Lee Gilliard was born June 19, 1937, to the late John Brooks Pinkston and Ida Heard-Pinkston. She was the youngest daughter of 13 children. She was educated in both Franklin and Hart County Schools. She was joined in marriage to the late Edward Edrew Gilliard. To this union, 3 children were born. Later in her marriage she began working at Whitworth Hatchery in Lavonia, GA until her retirement in 1999.

At a very early age, Vergie joined New Light Baptist Church and accepted the Lord as her savior. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She loved gardening, reading, and cooking. Her love for cooking and gardening allowed her to share with others the fruit of her labor.

Vergie Lee Gilliard departed this life on Sunday October 30, 2022, at Piedmont Regional Hospital Athens, GA. She was preceded in death by her late husband, Edward Edrew Gilliard and 11 siblings.

She leaves behind many memories to be cherished by her three sons: Reginald Gilliard of Lavonia, GA; Randall Gilliard (Tamara) of Pendleton, SC; and Ray Gilliard of Lavonia, GA. two grandchildren, Chandler Gilliard and Lauren Gilliard; one sister, Willie Joe Dae; two sisters-in-law, Cynthia Pinkston and Sara Pinkston. A special friend Louise Pickens. A host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
